In 2010, Microsoft had a big economic problem and had to lay off the ACES Studio for flight simulation software development. Did that mean that there would be no other same simulator software like Flight Simulator X? Well, that is definitely not true. Recently, a new Flight Simulator software development team was hired, and is making progress more than ever before. Notice that Microsoft Flight dropped its “simulator” in the title. This shows that Microsoft is trying to develop a flight simulator that is as realistic as possible. Microsoft Flight will include many new features in its simulator, including a fix to the all-known problem, Gamespy log-in. For an unknown reason, the Gamespy host will not let you log-in frequently unless you have tried a hundred times. Microsoft will incorporate a Windows Live ID sign-in instead of Gamespy, which means that you will have to make a Hotmail account.
So far, Windows Live is the main new feature for multiplayer. There is also a Wi-Fi network system which lets you play with your friends, but only if they also have Microsoft flight simulator. Fans are also expecting changes to all of the aircraft cockpits, not all of the buttons are clickable. One complaint was that the taxi lights didn’t even work, and instead just turned on the lights. Add-ons for FS2004 and FSX are expected to comply with the Microsoft Flight files, which will make the add-on library even bigger. The Flight team is also working on the world scenery, making it as realistic and accurate as possible. That is probably one of the reasons why the Microsoft Flight team is late and hasn’t even finished producing the simulator. In a few leaked screenshots of Flight, there are very accurate sunsets and weather, instead of the clouds just being flat pixels. The runway lighting is also very realistic, as it changes to work with the plane as it is landing.
